“I believe I will pull through as long as I keep working at it, where maybe someone else would succumb to it. I just want to grow old with my kids and enjoy their futures.” ~Janet Fishman Newman
Janet Fishman Newman's death, 11 days before my eighth birthday, left a cavernous hole in my universe. Yet while my mother passed away all those years ago, not a single day goes by without the reminder that she helped me be the Man I am today. Her strength, her love, her work ethic and her legacy live on through me, through the family I've now created, and through the work I do.
I've come to realize that she was demonstrating a very important truth - our circumstances in life are much less significant than our responses to them. Her actions bring to mind, Abraham Lincoln's words: “I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end.”
Her legacy has granted me the faith and a good conscience to know that getting knocked down is just a part of life. What matters is that we bounce back to living and loving. Continuing to Fight the Good Fight! Among all the wonderful opportunities, travel and adventures I've had the privilege of experiencing, my greatest joy is certainly the moments with my family. My wife, Ami, our children, our home and community are rooted in St. Louis. Paraphrasing a poem by Linda Ellis: For it matters not how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our DASH. ...So when your eulogy is being read, with life's actions to rehash would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your DASH?
I sincerely thank you for stopping by and hope you come back often.
Go Do Great Things, Ben
